Story

Delia Balmer, an agency nurse, met Sweeney, who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend. He attacked her before escaping arrest. Balmer rebuilt her life only to confront Sweeney seven years later after he was arrested for another murder. Based on a true crime story. The bodies were dumped in canals in Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. Top-notch performances from everyone involved made for uncomfortable viewing at times, but also gripping television. I often cringe at true-life dramas because they sweeten things for one side or the other. In this case, it felt like they were portraying both sides fairly. I don’t remember the original story, so it seemed pretty fresh to me. We watched the show in one go and never intended to, so that’s saying something. The fact that it seemed so disappointing made it all the more believable and the pacing as we moved through the key elements of the story kept the tension high, I would recommend this as a quality piece of television.
